When we think of technology nowadays we think of giant flat screen televisions and mobile phones so small a Barbie could use them. When we think of technology, we think of advancement and cool gadgets, because that is what technology has come to mean to us. But technology is really just any machinery or tool that we use.

During the Stone Age a rock which had been fashioned into a hammer is considered technology. For many rural people a flat block used with a round block is technology that is used to ground grain and various other materials.

Whatever age of human history you look at there has always been some kind of technology, even turning a normal branch into a walking stick is making a tool of out it and so it is a piece of technology. If we understand that technology is just the use and development of tools of various kinds it makes us think of our flat screen in a different way.

Every day we hear about a new technological advance. We are moving so rapidly in terms of the technology that we put out that it can be difficult to keep up.

Think of the mobile phone you bought a year ago. It is almost completely outdated, though really there is nothing wrong with it. We should not need to keep pace with technology.
